    How to choose fight shorts

Muay Thai vs MMA fight shorts

Muay Thai shorts are shorter (mid-thigh, often above), with a wider leg cut and traditional Thai embroidery. They allow extreme kick range. MMA shorts are longer (knee-length or mid-thigh), with side stretch panels and split seams for takedown defense. Either works for most disciplines.

    Sizing fight shorts

Size by waist circumference. Most adult men wear L (32–34" waist). Wide range of fit because the waistband includes both elastic and an internal drawstring. Check the size guide for full conversion.

    Fabric and care

Polyester-spandex blends dry fast and resist tears. Wash cold inside-out; line-dry or low-heat tumble. High-heat drying will damage the elastic. Most sublimated graphics last 2+ years with proper care.

    Fight Shorts FAQs

What's the difference between Muay Thai and MMA fight shorts?+

Muay Thai shorts are shorter (mid-thigh or above), with a wider cut and traditional embroidery. MMA shorts are longer (knee-length or below) with side stretch panels and split seams.

What size fight shorts should I buy?+

Size by waist circumference. Most adult men wear L. The internal drawstring + grip waistband gives a wide fit range β€” true sizing is more forgiving than street shorts.

Can I wear fight shorts for BJJ?+

Yes β€” many BJJ gyms allow MMA-style fight shorts (no metal zippers or pockets is the usual rule). Pure Muay Thai shorts may be too loose for BJJ comfort but work for casual sessions.

How do I care for fight shorts?+

Wash cold inside-out, line-dry or low-heat tumble. High heat damages the elastic waistband and degrades the sublimated graphics.

Are board shorts the same as fight shorts?+

No. Board shorts have inner mesh and pockets that catch during grappling. Fight shorts are seamless inside with no pockets β€” designed for combat sports use.

Why do fight shorts have side splits?+

To allow extreme kick range without tearing the seam. Without splits or stretch panels, a high roundhouse kick would tear standard shorts at the seam.
