    BJJ & No-Gi Rash Guards

Rash guards do more than prevent mat burn. Compression keeps your muscles warm during long rolls, anti-microbial fabric prevents the staph infections common in BJJ gyms, and the right cut doesn't ride up during sweeps and triangles. Our Rage Venom Rash Guard is 85% polyester / 15% spandex, UPF 50+ for outdoor training, with flatlock stitching that won't tear during a deep half-guard scramble.

    How to choose rash guards

Long sleeve vs short sleeve rash guards

Long sleeve: more skin coverage, more friction reduction on the mats, required for most no-gi competitions. Short sleeve: cooler in hot gyms, faster to dry, allows wrist watches and grip practice on bare forearms.

    Rash guard sizing

Compression fit is intentional — tighter than a t-shirt. Most adult men wear M or L. Match to chest circumference, not casual shirt size. See the size guide.

    Care and longevity

Wash after every session in cold water. Anti-microbial fabric reduces bacteria but doesn't eliminate it. Line dry to preserve elastic. High-heat drying kills compression fabric in 6 months.

    Rash Guards FAQs

Why wear a rash guard for BJJ?+

Prevents mat burn from friction with the mats and your partner. Reduces sweat dripping onto opponents. The anti-microbial fabric helps prevent staph and skin infections common in grappling gyms.

Long sleeve or short sleeve rash guard?+

Long sleeve is standard for no-gi competition and offers more friction reduction. Short sleeve is cooler and dries faster. Most BJJ practitioners own at least one of each.

What size rash guard should I get?+

Rash guards run compression-fit, so they should feel tight. Most adult men wear M or L based on chest circumference. Avoid sizing up — a loose rash guard isn't doing its job.

Are rash guards required for BJJ competition?+

For no-gi IBJJF events: yes, with specific color and ranking rules (e.g., your highest belt color or black for any belt). For gi events: not required (you wear the gi).

How do I clean rash guards?+

Wash after every session in cold water with mild detergent. Line dry — never high heat. Anti-microbial properties last longer when the fabric isn't damaged by heat.

Can I wear a rash guard under my gi?+

Not in most IBJJF gi events (gi rules ban undergarments). In casual training, many people wear a thin rash guard or compression shirt under the gi for hygiene and warmth.
