Shin Guards
Shin guards stop more careers than they save β when they're wrong. The wrong fit slides mid-roundhouse, the wrong density transmits impact to your tibia instead of absorbing it, the wrong coverage leaves your instep exposed. Our Titanium Shin Guards use triple-density foam with anatomical contouring, full instep coverage, and dual elastic straps that hold position through a 12-round Muay Thai session.
How to choose shin guards
Muay Thai vs MMA shin guards
Muay Thai shin guards: longer, fuller coverage from knee to instep, more padding for partner safety in heavy clinch and kicking exchanges. MMA shin guards: shorter, lighter, designed to allow ankle and foot mobility for takedowns and ground transitions.
How to size shin guards
Measure from below your knee to the top of your foot. Wrap a tape measure around the thickest part of your calf. Match against the shin guard size chart. Most adults fit M (under 5'10") or L (over 5'10").
Shin guard care
Air-dry after every session. Wipe leather/synthetic outer with a damp cloth weekly. Never soak β the foam will hold water and breed bacteria for months. See the gear care guide for the full routine.
Shin Guards FAQs
How do I measure for shin guards?+
Measure your shin length (from below your knee to the top of your foot) and your calf circumference (thickest part). Compare to the size guide. Most adult men wear M or L.
Are shin guards required for Muay Thai sparring?+
At every reputable Muay Thai gym, yes. Sparring without shin guards is reckless and most coaches will not let you on the mats. Even pro fighters use them in training to preserve their tibias across years.
What's the difference between Muay Thai and MMA shin guards?+
Muay Thai shin guards are longer with full instep coverage for kicks and clinch defense. MMA shin guards are shorter and more flexible to allow ankle mobility during takedowns and ground work.
How do I clean shin guards?+
Wipe with a damp cloth after each session. Air-dry completely (never seal wet in a bag). For deep cleaning, use a mild antibacterial spray on the foam interior β never submerge in water.
Should shin guards be tight?+
Snug but not constricting. Dual elastic straps should hold the guard in position without cutting off circulation. If you have to readjust mid-round, they're too loose.
How long do shin guards last?+
Quality shin guards used 3β4 times a week last 18β36 months. Sweat damage to foam interiors is the biggest factor β air-drying after every session is the difference between two years and ten.
