    Boxing Gloves

Boxing gloves are the most fundamental piece of equipment for any striker β€” and the wrong pair will hold you back from day one. At Rage Fight Gear we build training and sparring gloves engineered for full sessions, not for showroom shelves. Multi-layer foam absorbs the shock of heavy bag work, while reinforced wrist support protects against the rolled wrists that come from a long bag round or sloppy sparring partner. Every glove is built in Thailand by a team that trains in them.

    How to choose boxing gloves

How to choose the right boxing gloves

Glove weight depends on your goal. Bag and pad work: 10–12oz for speed and feel. Sparring: 16oz to protect your partner. All-purpose training: 14oz handles both with one pair. Velcro closures are faster and self-fitting; lace-up gives a tighter, more secure fit but you need a partner to lace you up. Premium synthetic leather is durable and easy to clean; genuine leather breaks in to your hand shape over months and lasts longer if cared for properly.

What size boxing gloves do I need by body weight?

    Under 120 lbs / 55 kg: 8–10oz. 120–150 lbs / 55–68 kg: 10–12oz training, 14oz sparring. 150–185 lbs / 68–84 kg: 12–14oz training, 16oz sparring. Over 185 lbs / 84 kg: 14–16oz training, 16–18oz sparring. See the full size guide for hand circumference fit.

How long do boxing gloves last?

Quality boxing gloves used 4–5 times per week last 12–24 months. Bag-only gloves stretch this further. Sweat and improper drying are the main killers β€” always air-dry gloves after every session, never seal them in a gym bag. See our gear care guide for the full routine.

    Boxing Gloves FAQs

What size boxing gloves do I need?+

Most adult beginners use 14oz. Sparring partners use 16oz. Bag-only work fits 10–12oz. Match the weight to your goal, not to your hand size β€” sizing is by glove weight in ounces, not letter sizes.

What's the difference between bag gloves and sparring gloves?+

Bag gloves are lighter (10–12oz) with denser, more compact padding designed to transfer force into a bag without injuring your hands. Sparring gloves are heavier (16oz+) with softer, larger padding to protect your sparring partner from concussive impact.

Should beginners use Velcro or lace-up boxing gloves?+

Velcro. You don't need a partner to put them on, you can swap them quickly between rounds, and they fit 95% as well as lace-up. Lace-up becomes useful at the competition level when you want a maximally tight, custom wrap-style fit.

How long do boxing gloves last?+

Quality gloves used 4–5 sessions/week last 12–24 months. Bag-only gloves last longer. Always air-dry after every session β€” sealing wet gloves in a bag kills them in months.

Can I use boxing gloves for MMA?+

No. Boxing gloves have a closed fist with full padding and would prevent you from grappling. MMA gloves are open-palm with much less padding. If you train both, you need both pairs.

Do I need hand wraps under boxing gloves?+

Yes, every session. Hand wraps stabilize the small bones of your hand, secure your wrist, and absorb sweat that would otherwise destroy your glove lining. See the hand wrapping guide.

What weight gloves do pros wear?+

In competition, pros use 8oz or 10oz gloves depending on weight class. In training, they sparr with 16oz to protect partners and work bags with 12–14oz.
